RBC GranFondo Whistler Announces the Pursuit Challenge

Organizers Adding a Spectator Friendly Sprint Race as part of Weekend Festival

August 12, 2014 - Vancouver, BC: GranFondo Canada announced a new event to the weekend schedule for this year's RBC GranFondo Whistler. On Sunday, September 7, 2014, a new Pursuit Challenge sprint competition will take place on Blackcomb Way in Whistler.

In heats of four, cyclists will play a cat-and-mouse sprint race on a 900 meter closed course with the winner of each heat moving on to the next round. Beginning with a field of 64 racers in both male and female, the top overall finisher will win $500 cash.

"The RBC GranFondo Whistler is becoming a full weekend event of activities, said Neil McKinnon, founder of GranFondo Canada. Being in Whistler with thousands of cyclists and their families, we have a captive audience to witness and cheer on something very exciting. There are some really talented athletes and we wanted to showcase their talents; the 'cerebral sprint' will ignite the crowds."

  • $20 entry fee.
  • Open to any age.
  • 100% of proceeds to the new Whistler Cycling Club
  • 9:00am-10:00am: Athlete check in
